Okay to begin with I am a geek. I can't configure or explain in detail astrophysics or how the shifting of tectonic plates caused geothermal heating but I can read enough to grasp the concept and probably explain it in laymen’s terms to someone. With that said, why the hell do people buy personal computers and know just enough to screw one completely up? I understand that everyone wants to enjoy the wonders of the World Wide Web but damn. If you don't even know how to burn a cd for music which I must say has been a staple of the pc world for some time now, stop using your pc right now!
I understand that when people buy things that there is an understanding that they may not know everything about it but they should be willing to learn. If you’re not willing to learn at least be nice enough that when you ask someone who does know, sit back, shut up and stay out of the way. Don't act like you know what's going on and don't grip about the length of time it takes the person who you called to repair the butt screwing you gave your computer.
Yes I sound bitter because I'm one of those geeks that receive the questions about other people’s computers. I really don't mind answering questions as long as I'm at least appreciated for it. You know, a thank you, "I appreciate you helping Me.", MONEY. Of course then I'm told you can always say no. That in itself produces a new conundrum. Do you become the cold hearted ass who's not using his God given talents to help out, or just the greedy bastard who wants to get paid for everything?
I say go for the money, learn to deal with people without actually talking to them too much and just get paid. Besides, the money makes it all better, just be sure to charge appropriately.
